Fortezza Vecchia (Old Fortress)
A brick Medici fortress at the harbour mouth, with views over the port. Entry is usually free, but opening times vary with events, so check locally.
Which berth you get depends on the day: the Porto 2000 cruise terminal at Piazzale dei Marmi, the Alto Fondale cruise terminal or other quays in the industrial port. The shuttle serves them all.
Porto di Livorno 2000, the terminal operator, runs a shuttle bus from the ship to the town centre, dropping near Piazza del Municipio (about 10–15 minutes). Some cruise lines include it and others charge a small fare; check on board. From the centre, Livorno Centrale station is about 2.5 km away by town bus or taxi.
The terminal operator offers assistance for passengers with reduced mobility (EU Regulation 1177/2010); ask the ship before you go ashore.
