Spianada square
A huge open green square between the old town and the Old Fortress, with a bandstand, gardens and a cricket pitch, a legacy of British rule.
The port has two cruise passenger terminals and quays for several cruise ships at once. If your ship anchors instead, it will explain the tender landing on board.
Bus: city bus line 15 leaves from inside the port by the cruise berths and runs to San Rocco Square in the town centre (a few minutes from the old town), then on to the airport; check times at the stop. Taxi: from the port, about 10 minutes to the Spianada. Walk: around 30 minutes along the waterfront past the New Fortress. Inside the port, transfers between the berths and the terminal building are arranged on the day; follow staff directions.
The walk into town is mostly level pavement along the seafront; the old town has some stepped lanes and uneven paving.
