Dubrovnik's walled old town of pale stone streets, churches and sea-facing ramparts is one of the great sights of the Adriatic. Cruise ships use the port at Gruž, about 3 km from the old town, so plan a short bus or taxi ride each way.
Which port are you visiting?
Bus: Libertas city buses, including lines 1A, 1B and 3, run from the Gruž area to Pile Gate every 10–20 minutes, taking about 10–15 minutes; buy tickets at kiosks or pay a little more on board (exact change helps). Taxi: ranks in front of the port, about 7–10 minutes to the old town, fares from about €10. Walk: 30–40 minutes, hot in summer. The port lists an organised port-to-old-town bus for cruise passengers; ask on board about it.
Gruž anchorage (tender landing in the port)Tenders land in the Gruž port area; from there use the same buses and taxis to Pile Gate (about 10–15 minutes). Allow extra time for tender queues on the way back.
