Porto Antico waterfront
The old harbour, rebuilt as a promenade with cafés, boats and views back to the city.
Genoa's cruise piers sit right on the edge of the old city, so you can walk off the ship to grand palaces, one of Europe's largest medieval centres and the aquarium. Trains along the coast also make Portofino and the Riviera villages possible on a longer day.
Which port are you visiting?
Walk: Genova Piazza Principe station is about 400 m away (about 5–10 minutes), the Royal Palace about 10 minutes and the aquarium about 15–20 minutes along the old harbour. From Principe the metro runs to De Ferrari and San Giorgio in the centre. Taxis wait outside the terminal.
Ponte Andrea Doria cruise terminalWalk: from the Andrea Doria pier it is about 10–15 minutes on foot to Piazza Principe station and a few minutes more to the Royal Palace. The aquarium is about 20–25 minutes along the waterfront, or take the metro from Principe.
